The latter half of the 20th Century saw the development of many new and often unique aircraft. The high speeds enabled by the jet engine produced new challenges for the designers, and the most interesting period in aircraft development.

Clarence Kelly Johnson

From a young age Clarence "Kelly" Johnson was fascinated by aircraft. By the age of 12 he had decided that he wanted to design airplanes, and embarked on his first aircraft design, which he called "The Merlin 1, battle plane".

Roy Chadwick

Roy Chadwick, CBE, (Born April 30th 1893, Died August 23rd 1947) was an aircraft designer for Avro. Born at Marsh Hall Farm, Farnworth near Bolton, son of the mechanical engineer Charles Chadwick, he was the Chief Designer for the Avro Company and was responsible for practically all of their aeroplane designs

Sir Sydney Camm

The Hawker Hurricane was perhaps Sydney Camm's best known design, made famous by it's role in the Battle of Britain alongside the Supermarine Spitfire. Camm started the design in response to an Air Ministry requirement for a new fighter in 1934.
